If the anxiety does not seem to
be subsiding or show improvement, there are products that may help to
calm your dog. Comfort Zone Dap is a plug-in diffuser
that produces a pheromone similar to those secreted by a mother dog with
puppies, and thus has a claming affect on most dogs. It is recommended
to have one for each 600 square feet where your new arrival will be spending
his/her his time. Leave a radio or TV on when you leave the house to help
keep your dog from feeling lonely, and a bit of Chamomile tea can also
be mixed with their water to help keep them relaxed. Many busy working people have someone stay with their greyhounds or stop by to take their dog on a walk. Dog sitters that specialize in Greyhound dog-sitting can be found through greyhound adoption and rescue services. Prices vary depending on location. Overall, if you are looking for a more independent animal, a greyhound
might not be a good fit. Consider a less “needy” breed or
a cat, as they tend to be far more independent. Greyhounds are lovable,
gentle animals, and if time is available they are wonderful affectionate
pets. They are one of the few larger breed dogs that seems to quickly
and happily adjust to life in an apartment or small home. “Adopting
the Racing Greyhound,” by Cynthia Branigan is also
recommended to new owners seeking more information on taking great care
of their new family member. The book can be found at Amazon.com
along with other recommended reads for those looking to add a greyhound
to fam. |
