The Carleton Court Dog Park is a serene environment for playful
dogs and their owners. It is located at the intersection of Carleton Street
and Holyoke Street in the Back Bay area of Boston, within walking distance
of the Prudential Center. The small dog park seems to be a converted tennis
court surrounded by greenery. The actual court area is fenced in and allows
adequate room for the dogs to play unleashed.
Handfuls of bog balls and other dog play toys can be seen strewn about
the area. Mock fire hydrants and parking cones are lined up in the back
in a mulched area for the dogs’ convenience. There are usually about
six or more dogs frequenting the park in the heaviest traffic times, which
are typically early morning and early evening. Outside of the court area,
the green space provides a break from the non-stop happenings of the major
metropolis. Dog owners relax on shaded park benches enjoying the greenery.
The surrounding area is made up of upper crust Boston town houses and
brick apartments with small iron fenced yards. During the summer months,
you can see a row of six foot tall sunflowers at one end, and a quaint
fenced in garden of marigolds, hyacinths, and other assorted flowers at
the other end. At this Boston Dog park, Irish wolf hounds can be spotted
leaping through the air and running off leash with clicking nails on asphalt
as they bound through the fenced park; while their owners proudly keep
watch.
To keep the dog park safe and fun, there are posted rules that must be
followed if you and your canine companion wish to frequent the area. The
dog park is open from 6:30 a.m. through 10:00 p.m., which accommodates
even the busiest work schedules. For the protection of the dog and the
owner, all dogs must have collars and identification. Each person is also
limited to having no more than three dogs in the park at one time. No
puppies under four months old are allowed in the park either, simply for
their own safety. As expected, owners must clean up after their dogs--
which means bringing your own doggy bags. Any dangerous or ill-tempered
dogs, or any dog that has a known propensity to be dangerous, is strictly
prohibited by the rules of the dog park. In general, the Carleton Court
Dog Park is a positive place for dogs and their owners to socialize in
Boston
